Clearing

For NCAA Division I or II universties UK student athletes are subjected to International Clearing.

Prospective student's must register themselves directly with the NCAA Eligibility Centre, supply ORIGINAL copies of their certificates, referred to as "transcripts" by the Americans, supply details of their entry test results and complete various forms on line. Clearing can be applied for before test results are known. The application fee for International players is $75 (about £38.00).

The NCAA Initial Eligibility Certification Report and ID number can be supplied to a university once interest or invitation to apply has been received from the coach. This process can take time. In 2006 there were over 400,000 student athletes studying in NCAA institutions!

For NAIA institutions the university or college Admissions Office will take over once the Athletic Department make a formal offer. Making certain the Admission process is completed is the responsibility of the individual student. Recruiting coaches are required to validate eligibility and receive formal acceptance from their Admissions Director.

For NJCAA entry the basic requirement is having completed education up to GCSE standard. NJCAA colleges are elite sports and education institutions and will require comitment to study, completing the required hours, best behaviour and consistent athletic performance.
