Entry Tests

For NCAA DI and DII universities students must take a recognised university entry test. The most popular tests are SAT -Standard Assessment Test and ACT - American College Test.

For entry in August/September 2009 tests should ideally taken in the Junior Year no later than May or June. In the Senior Year it is adviseable to book a test in September or October as there are only 5 realistic dates available to foreign students - October, November, December 2007, January and May 2008. Taking the SAT in May does not leave much time - pre-season training starts during July and August!

Testing after January is definately late as the majority of scholarshps are issued during February and March. US coaches quickly lose interest in players who make excuses as why they have not booked a test.

NAIA universities and colleges ask for SAT or ACT scores but may admit without them. Qualification criteria for NAIA is based on any 2 of 3 requirements - i) minimum 2.0 GPA, ii) a SAT or ACT score and iii) rank in the top 50% of the high school graduating class.

Where neither NCAA nor NAIA entry criteria can be met, talented student athletes can apply to an NCAA DIII or NJCAA establishment as eligibility requirements are set by the member institution and the participating althletic conference.
