Blackpool boy Biko has big ambition

01 June 2012

Former Blackpool FC scholar Biko was one of the top performers at the P4S 2011 Showcase which was held at Lilleshall National Sports Centre. Attracting good interest and feeling wanted was a change of pace having suffered the disappointment of coming so close to a professional contract at the Premier League club, only to be released late in the 2010-2011 season.

Biko has fond memories of his time at the prestigious club, paticularly in the 2nd year. "Once the club was in the Prem, I got to play in the FA Reserve Premier League where I played against full England Internationals and some of the best young players in the country" said Brennan. His performances did impress the manager Ian Holloway and was included in the 1st Team squad for their FA Cup tie against Southampton FC, talking about the game Biko added "it was the pinnacle really as I got a Premier League squad number and was on the bench, warming up in front of 26,000 people".

Following his release from Blackpool he did receive trial offers from lower league clubs after an impressive performance at the LFE exit trials but rebuffed those to focus on getting to the US through Pass4Soccer. This led him to taking part in the annual Showcase event.

"The whole experience was a good one as everything was well organised and I felt I performed well," he said of the P4S event. His good performance saw him receive several top offers and then it was down to him to think which was the right one. "In the beginning I was swayed towards a university in New York but once I received the call from the Head Coach at Charlotte and spoke with him it changed my mind. He explained how excited he would be to work with me and then I heard of how well the team had done the previous season (National Finalists) so then it became a no brainer".

Once committed to UNC-Charlotte, the university decided to fly him out for a visit so to have a look at the campus, facilities and train with the team. "It definitely lived up to all my expectations. The facilties, campus and training was all of a good standard. The US players were all athletes and there was also some who are very technical which was a surprise". Biko also had the chance to meet with professors and lock down his chosen major - History and Law.

Brennan can now look forward to meeting up with the team for pre-season in August, but he is already setting himself goals beyond that, "I am hoping to break into the MLS and get a Generation Adidas contract. Every single year is important and now I've set myself that goal I've got to dedicate myself and work hard to achieve it. At the same time my back up would be to carry on my education and study law at a school such as Stanford".

Everyone at Pass4Soccer is excited for Biko and we all have faith that he will go onto be a huge success at UNCC.
